We’re happy to introduce new team member Martha Morrissey, who has joined Development Seed as a machine learning engineer. Martha is passionate about geospatial data because of its capabilities to educate people, communicate awe-inspiring aspects of our planet, and serve as a basis for innovative solutions to large-scale global issues.
Martha joined to advance our implementations of machine learning pipelines that use object detection to help guide mappers to points of interest and to partially automate mapping processes.
Prior to joining Dev Seed Martha worked at DigitalGlobe, now Maxar Technologies. She has experience building tools to facilitate machine learning workflows with satellite imagery as well as deep learning model development with satellite imagery.
Martha has a masters degree in Geography from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and an undergraduate degree also in Geography from the University of California, Berkeley. Martha’s grad school research involved modeling bike commuting at high spatial and temporal resolutions in urban areas using a variety of data sources including crowdsourced cycling data and OSM data.
Outside of work, Martha enjoys running, cycling, baking, and taking her cat on walks.
