Davis is a Software Engineer at Development Seed. He focuses on delivering domain-specific data in efficient storage formats, namely Zarr. He is a lead maintainer of the Zarr-Python library and a member of the team developing the core Zarr format.

Prior to joining Development Seed, Davis worked as a freelance software developer; before that, he was a data engineer at Janelia Research Campus. Davis has a BA in Philosophy from the University of North Carolina and a PhD in Biology from the University of Chicago. His PhD thesis involved high-performance microscopy of larval zebrafish, but the chapter about efficient image data repartitioning for time series analysis was his favorite.

Davis lives in Würzburg, Germany with his wife. He likes transporting large things from the hardware store on his cargo bike, and bouldering.
