We’re delighted to welcome Soumya as a Machine Learning Engineer to the team! Soumya brings expertise in applied Machine Learning. He has experience building scalable data products in AI for Good & Humanitarian space. Soumya is a staunch believer in a free and open education system.

Soumya joins our GeoAI team where he will help grow our machine learning practice and build products to help our partners do climate science research and conservation.

Prior to joining the team, Soumya worked as a Data Scientist at Gramener and taught ML at Springboard. At Gramener, he helped set up the AI Labs team and worked to shape education programs in rural India by designing release plans of "good mosquitoes" to prevent dengue from space & estimating elephant population in the wild.

Soumya has a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and Engineering but wrote his first program after graduating and considers Coursera & fast.ai his true alma mater.

Although Soumya has not perfected cooking (by his own account), he has mastered making pizza, biriyani, and chenna-poda (an odisha delicacy sweet) which in our books is top-chef status. Soumya is a huge football fan and in his next life hopes to be reborn as a player for Man Utd. Glory, glory Man United!
