We’re excited to announce that Alex Mandel has joined Development Seed as a geospatial engineer.
Alex joined to work on operationalizing data analysis workflows for science. He’s developing systems to organize data, make it more usable, and creating documentation on how to explore and use data and tools.
Joining us from UC Davis, Alex previously provided scientific computing support to the university’s Department of Environmental Science and Policy. He has a background in natural resource sciences, and for over 15 years has worked with government agencies and other small organizations to implement geospatial solutions. He is an active participant in open source communities such as FOSS4G, OpenStreetMap, and OSGeoLive. He has taught workshops around the world on R, Python, QGIS, Version Control, RPAS (aka UAVS, or drones), and scalable computing.
In his free time, Alex is a wildlife and sports photographer, and coaches and plays on an Ultimate team.
