The State Department’s latest TechCamp — which brings together technology and civil society folks to learn from each other — is taking place now in Montevideo, and Eric is attending to talk about our mapping and data visualization tools and do several deep dives on how to use TileMill. This TechCamp is focused specifically on education, and how technology can be better utilized to drive and improve education in South America.

Yesterday, Eric gave a lightning talk on the New America Foundation’s Federal Education Budget Project data browser and the Department of Education’s map of schools access to fast internet. This fired people up for several trainings on how to use TileMill to make maps with educational data. Today’s focus is specifically on working with data sets people have, giving people a chance to see step by step how to take data, geo-locate it, map it, and share that map online.
