Week in DC Tech: February 14th Edition

2 min read

It’s Valentine’s Day, it’s the warmest day we’ve had in a very long time, and it will be positively Spring-like by the end of the week. While that’s a lot of temptation to take it easy somewhere outdoors, there’s also a lot of excellent temptation to head out to a local bar to catch some great technology events this week. Like an answer to the epic battle of humans vs. computers! Plus other great events. A roundup of the ones that caught our eye are below, and you can find a full schedule at DC Tech Events.

Monday, February 14

7:00–8:30 pm

Jeopardy Watch Party : Computer vs Humans! Can a computer outsmart the all-time best Jeopardy players? Come watch this machine vs. man event in which IBM’s Watson computer will go head-to-head in an actual Jeopardy competition with top ranking players Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter.

Tuesday, February 15

7:00 pm

NetSquared Meetup: Extreme Makeover : This month the folks at NetSquared will help the new community-based nonprofit GoodSpeaks plan its web strategy. The goal is to determine the best way to help GoodSpeaks link current events and news stories to related nonprofits and specifically videos about their work. Have an idea? Come out and share it.

Thursday, February 17

Noon to 1:30 pm

Media Future Now: What the Kids Are Doing : This month’s Media Future Now event will look at what communications platforms young entrepreneurs are using and creating, and what they mean for the larger business community.

This Weekend

Webchick Drupal 7 Tour : Angie Byron (aka webchick), amazing Drupal developer and co-maintainer of Drupal 7, will be in town this weekend to show you how to rock Drupal 7. Angie will be talking about everything from user interface changes and configuration options to theming and programming API changes, so this is must attend if you’re about to dive into Drupal 7 development. Eric will be on hand too to talk about why you should be using the Kit specification and what’s new with Open Atrium.
