Mark is a machine learning engineer at Development Seed. He is trained in classical machine learning, deep learning, and computer vision, and leverages developments in artificial intelligence to build software for processing and visualizing data. Mark believes that the bleeding-edge of A.I. research should be translated into open tools that can democratize their impact and empower people globally.
Mark hails from academia, where he researched deep artificial neural networks as a tool to generate brain recordings that better reflect neural activity. He previously studied neuroscience as a way to inform the next generation of brain-computer interfaces. He was awarded the AI Grant in 2017 to generate neural data using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs, a deep learning framework).
Mark has a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Washington and a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis.
