We look for many things when deciding whether to add someone to our team. We seek superior technical chops and a deep understanding of bringing the right tools to bear on any project. We also look for someone who fits our values, such as commitment to open source and using data for good. We found all this and more when Tarashish joined the team.

Tarashish is a generalist software engineer who enjoys writing code and building infrastructure that helps make our world a tiny bit better by solving real problems. He has extensive experience building scalable, distributed web applications and deploying them to cloud infrastructure. He is a keen supporter of open source, open education, and the open data movement.

Tarashish jumped right in on one of our NASA projects, providing impactful backend and frontend contributions to the Algorithm Publication Tool (APT). This tool helps scientists write open and standardized earth observation documentation. The team has enjoyed his critical thinking and decision-making skills, applying the right technology to the right solution for users.

Before joining Development Seed, Tarashish worked at the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), a non-profit focused on investigative reporting recently nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. At OCCRP, he helped develop and maintain Aleph - an open-source investigative data platform journalists use. He built OSINT tools to help investigative journalists follow the money and contributed to open data projects like OpenSanctions.

Tarashish has a degree in computer science from the College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar, India. He started his programming career by contributing to various open-source projects under Google’s Summer of Code program.

When not tinkering with code, you can find Tarashish hiking and traveling with friends, tending to his garden, or reading a book.
