As usual there are several interesting technology events happening this week in the Washington, DC area on topics ranging from digital media to online strategy to big data. Below is a roundup of the ones that peaked our interest, and you can find a full calendar over at DC Tech Events. Also, a note that the first Geo DC meetup to happen in almost a year will be next Tuesday. We’ll be there and are excited to help revive this group.

Online News Association Meetup Group : This month’s ONA meetup will feature presentations from the Fiscal Times and the United Service Organization on how they use digital media to better communicate with their audiences.

Tuesday, June 21

7:00 pm

NetSquared’s Extreme Makeover : At this event, online strategists will lend their expertise to revamping the online strategy of the Give Back Friday project, an online movement aiming to turn Black Friday, the largest consumer spending day of the year, into the largest charitable giving day of the year. Come out to brainstorm ideas on how to improve the nonprofit’s online presence and help it reach its goal.

Wednesday, June 22

7:00 pm

Big Data DC Meetup #2 : The second Big Data meetup in the area will feature presentations on a NoSQL solution survey, how to mine access logs with command line tools, and how to use Apache Mahout from Jython. Sound interesting? Come out to learn about these topics and meet others interested in big data.
