Speakers have just been announced for next month’s OpenGovDC conference, and the one day event has a killer lineup of government folks who have implemented successful open source projects at their agencies. Representatives from the Federal Communications Commission, Department of Energy, USAID, General Services Administration, Department of Education, Navy, and the White House will lead sessions on topics ranging from managing and structuring content and workflow across websites, to building and sharing features between agencies, to releasing open data for public consumption, to securing open source applications. Each session will be followed by a technical workshop diving into specifics on how to implement the ideas being discussed throughout the day.
Steven VanRoekel, Managing Director of the FCC, will keynote the event. He’ll kick off the day with some thoughts on how open source has helped agencies implement the Open Government Initiative and what role open source should play in IT portfolios.
This intensive one day event — happening Wednesday, June 14 — will be a great opportunity for people in the government to learn from their peers who have had success implementing large open source technology projects and leave with practical ideas of how to implement technology projects in their own agencies. OpenGovDC is taking place at the Wooly Mammoth Theater downtown, and you can register here.
We’re looking forward to participating and sharing our own experiences working with government agencies to integrate open source tools — specifically interactive maps — into their existing websites. We’ll present in the “Telling Stories with Map” session, specifically discussing recent mapping work with data from the White House and the Department of Education.
You can see the full schedule and speaker list at http://opengovdc.com/. OpenGovDC is just one month away, so we recommend that you register soon. Hope to see you there!
