While the weather will likely be just terrible outside, with near steady sleet and hail in the forecast, there are plenty of interesting events happening in town to keep you from holing up in your home — for too long at least. Below are a few of the events that caught our eye, and DC Tech Events has a full schedule of the week’s goings on.
Monday, January 31
WordPress DC: Town Hall with WordPress Founder : If you’re a WordPress user, you’ll want to catch tonight’s meetup where Matt Mullenweg — the founding developer behind the platform — will be talking, taking questions, and generally hanging out.
Tuesday, February 1
DCPHP Beverage Subgroup : Want to rave or rant about php, or just pick a fellow developers brain on how something related to the programming language? Check out this casual meetup and hang out with php developers over a few beers.
Wednesday, February 2
Tech Cocktail DC Winter 2011 : If you’re looking to meet a LOT of technology folks, you’ll want to come out for the latest Tech Cocktail, which always brings out masses of folks working in all different areas relating to technology.
Thursday, February 3
Ignite DC #6 : Want to hear what 16 artists, technologists, entrepreneurs, and philosophers have to say with 20 slides and five minutes? The latest Ignite DC is your chance.
Friday at 5:30 to Sunday at 5:00 pm
StartUp Scramble DC University Challenge : If you’re a local college student and have been mulling over an idea for a new business, you’ll want to check out the Startup Scramble. It’s 50 hours of pitching, planning and working to launch a socially-conscious business — with the best executed idea winning $1,000 in seed money plus access to a Ashoka’s network of “changemakers” to serve as mentors.
