earthdata-playbook

The mission of the Earthdata Infrastructure team is to reduce friction for scientists and other users of earth observation data to access and analyze data on the cloud. We hold the following values to support this mission:

Data and code should be open source.

Open source supports collaboration, reduces duplication, and enables reproducibility.

Data and code should be discoverable and accessible.

Data and code should be published to a usable search service and hosted on cloud environments to increase equity in using these tools.

Data should have established provenance.

In order to support reproducibility and collaboration, users should be able to understand how data came to be in its current state.

Tools and infrastructure should be optimized to minimize cost at reasonable scale.

Data providers should be able to host data within current budgets and as cost-effectively as current technologies allow, to enable the most users the access to the most data.

This playbook will function to document engineering best practices and share knowledge. If you would like to contribute, visit our contributing doc.
