Felix is a Geospatial Engineer at Development Seed, specializing in the intersection of geospatial data and cloud operations. He likes to develop useful technical solutions that can be easily deployed by anyone. As an allrounder, he possesses expertise in both fields of vector and raster data, a passion for geospatial APIs, and proficiency in server operations ranging from Linux systems to cloud infrastructure.
Before joining Development Seed, Felix focused on international cooperation and disaster response, empowering individuals worldwide to leverage Free Software and Open Data to enhance their lives. He created maps with children in the Caribbean and the Himalayas, and supported communities in Africa and Latin America in mapping their public transportation networks. At the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team, he led the development of Version 4 of the Tasking Manager, the primary tool for collaborative mapping on OpenStreetMap. Additionally, he guided the implementation of processing systems to improve global building information for scientific modeling of natural hazard exposure at the German Research Centre for Geosciences. Most recently, at UP42, he contributed to building an industry-leading platform for accessing satellite imagery from multiple providers.
Outside of work, Felix frequently visits his favorite hacking space in Berlin and he enjoys dancing, a passion that reconnects him with Latin America and the Caribbean, where he spent over a quarter of his life.
