Blog: Podcasting
Podcasting to Farmers
The nonprofit Practical Action is teaching farmers in northern Peru ways to better grow crops and raise livestock - all through podcasts broadcasted on local radio stations.
What a great outreach idea. Radio is by far the most used communication mechanism in rural Peru, as it is in much of the developing world. And using podcasts to broadcast on the radio is cost effective - organizations don't have to travel to remote, local stations. Ready to
play podcasts are also more likley to get air time than written statements that the announcer must read.
Wikis for podcasting shownotes
The Daily Source Code, Adam Curry's podcast is
now using a wiki for his shownotes. It is running on mediawiki and was set up by
Michael Ridley.
I think this is great! Especially for niche podcasts, such
as environmental organizations podcasting that want their listeners to
contribute back and make their information repository richer.

CBS Launches Online News Service
Yesterday CBS launched part of its new 24-hour internet news service.
What's particularly interesting is that they decided on this approach
rather than creating a 24-hour cable news service like most of their
competitors.
Web for Development Conference - Blogging live from the World Bank
Wooohooo – we have wifi. Ian and I brought our router in this morning from the office and it just plugged it in. We are downtown for the first half of the week attending the Web for Development Conference at the World Bank “Telling the Development Story to the World.”Some highlights from yesterday...There was a very interesting mix of conservatives who are nervous about interactive components of sites saying “blogs are not the answer,” and some provocative forward thinkers in the first session “Making Key Connections – A Content Odyssey”.Interactive sites-
Podcasting really is getting big
Yesterday's Washington Post ran an article on how to Create Your Own Podcasts. It immediately made me think that the Post is catching on to tech trends a little quicker, since their how to blog article ran in the same section after the presidential elections, and after blogs had been pretty well hyped up on CNN and other major news networks. But today this article is featured on the front page of Google News in the Science/Technology section. I guess that shows that the Post is getting quicker, and that podcasting is becoming more popular, or at least more understood. Maybe in a few months CNN will even start a podcaster roundup to compliment the one they currently have on bloggers.
