Open Atrium is a platform for building team portals that can be extended to meet highly custom knowledge management needs for large organizations' intranets and extranets. It starts with "out of the box" features like a blog, a wiki, a calendar, a case tracker, a shoutbox, and a dashboard to manage content. These features can be expanded to meet unique needs for large organizations so that full scale enterprise collaboration sites can be built with Open Atrium as a base. By fully leveraging Drupal, all of the strengths of Drupal can contribute to creating custom features for Open Atrium within a framework that is already tailored for team collaboration.

Consulting and needs assessment

Our consulting engagements provide an opportunity to better understand how organizations work and to lay the groundwork for successful adoption of collaboration tools at the enterprise level. Our strategists assess needs for multiple stakeholders and map business processes to Open Atrium solutions. Over the past six years, our work building custom collaboration tools for international development agencies and other geographically dispersed teams has given us unique experience building professional collaboration spaces for large teams and distributed workplaces.

Advanced features and systems integration

As the lead developers of Open Atrium, our team is uniquely qualified to build advanced custom features. These could include anything from social networking features that bring the best of the social web to the work place, to integration with third party enterprise software systems that are essential for large intranets, like real time Lotus Notes integration, LDAP support, document management with systems like Alfresco and or Google Docs, and custom mapping systems to visualize geographic data.

Open Atrium was developed in iterations over the course of several years, with participation from more than fifty organizations before the beta release.
