Managing News
Instant visualization of news and data
Managing News is a robust news and data aggregator with pluggable visualization and workflow tools. It is both a product and a platform. Out of the box, Managing News is a powerful news aggregator. As a platform, it can be customized to meet unique workflow and visualization needs for all kinds of structured data, from CSV to RDF to custom XML formats.
As a turnkey news tracking solution, it is being used by companies to manage brand reputation, by geographically dispersed teams at NGOs to visualize humanitarian alerts, and by community organization to run simple thematic news sites for the world.
At the same time, Managing News can also serve as a platform to build highly custom data aggregators that aggregate everything from CSV to RDF to custom XML formats that need unique workflows and visualizations. We have posted a set of examples at www.managingnews.com/examples.
Here is a look at some of the functionality in the 1.0 beta 9 release:
Services
Integration with custom data & formats
We use Managing News as a platform to build custom data browsers, a good example of which is the Afghanistan Election Browser. In this case, we were tasked to help break 2,500 pages of critical elections data out of poorly baked PDFs and transform the data into something more open and useful. We have used Managing News as a platform to parse CSV, KML, GeoRSS, and more, and then create intuitive visualizations for browsing the data.
Custom mapping and location features
Managing News can be configured with custom geographically-relevant information – from geotags in multiple languages for tagging hyperlocal news, to additional data sets for relevant information like hospital and school locations or election polling centers. Combined with the tools we've built for MapBox, GIS data can be overlaid on highly custom maps to augment the value of visualizations.

Advanced features
Managing News can be extended with custom features, integrate with proprietary third party platforms, aggregate private data sets, run behind a firewall, and be configured with highly custom workflows to meet the needs of large communications teams, public relations firms, and other organizations invested in the real time news cycle or large data visualization projects.
