Meet Gjore Milevski, a software engineer advancing the way we use geospatial technology to understand and respond to our changing planet. Gjore brings initiative, sharp problem-solving skills, and a deep commitment to creating tools that make a real difference. His current focus is the VEDA (Visualization, Exploration, and Data Analysis) project with NASA, where he’s helping build solutions that support climate resilience and disaster response, including for communities affected by wildfires. Most recently, his work contributed to the Mobile Climate Mapper, an interactive tool featured in the Smithsonian’s Earth Information Center that helps people explore how extreme temperatures may shift over time around the globe. With every project, Gjore continues to push the boundaries of how data and technology can empower people and communities worldwide.

Before Development Seed, Gjore gained experience at several companies across Europe, including a Technical University of Munich spin-off. There, he developed the user interface for a wearable laser scanning and mobile mapping device, integrating real-time pub/sub data streams from scanners, cameras, and other onboard sensors into a clear, usable interface. His interests include GIS, real-time visualizations and event streaming, and building interactive data systems for the web.

Gjore has a background in GIS and its applications in the cultural heritage sector. He was first introduced to the world of geospatial during a semester abroad at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, where he encountered QGIS. He quickly became interested in concepts such as viewsheds and hillshades, particularly how they could be used to model perspective and visibility in real-world landscapes. Over time, he found himself more drawn to building these kinds of tools than simply using them. Around the same time, he built a website for a scientific organization he co-founded with his academic mentor in Skopje, which marked the beginning of his path into web development.

Originally from Skopje, Macedonia, Gjore spent a few years in Munich before settling in Switzerland, where he now lives with his partner. He values clear communication and collaborative problem-solving, and aims to help others move forward by listening closely and aligning around shared goals when things seem unclear or uncertain.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with close ones, reading (mostly nonfiction and history) and often spends weekends hiking or exploring nearby areas. He also takes long walks in the forest near his home as a way to recharge. A few years ago, he completed a 100km walk from Munich to Mittenwald in 24 hours, one of several longer hikes he’s done. These routines help him stay grounded and maintain balance between work and life.
