Week in DC Tech

Today kicks off not only a scorching heat wave, but also a great week of technology events happening in the city. The weeks starts with a Node.js meetup tonight and goes on to include happy hours, discussions on evaluating your external communications and overall technology strategy, and a two day deep dive on learning and using Drupal. Below are our event picks for the week, and you can find a full calendar at DC Tech Events. Have a great week!

Monday, July 18

7:00 - 10:00 pm

NodeDC Meetup: Want to know more about Node.js, the technology behind our fast data visualization and mapping tools? Come out for the inaugural NodeDC meetup. Presentations will include an intro to Node.js, using nvm and npm in your development environment, and a demo of the requisitioner module, and there will be lots of time for conversations before and after. We're excited to be hosting this event in our garage.

Tuesday, July 19

7:00 pm

NetSquared: Where Are They Now?: NetSquared regularly hosts strategy sessions to give specific nonprofits advice on how to improve their web presence. This meetup will look at how effective that advice is, bringing in several people who have taken this advice and tested it out at their organization to report back on what worked, what didn't, and what they learned from the process.

Thursday, July 21

8:30 - 10:00 am

Technology Salon: This month's Technology Salon will focus on evaluation, discussing research and data collection methods most applicable to ICT work and taking into account the realities of projects happening in the field. If you'd like to learn more about this or hear advice on what works well, come out for this event.

6:00 - 9:00 pm

NationalField's Summer Tech Mixer: NationalField is hosting a happy hour in its Dupont Circle office. If you want to meet their team and enjoy some beers, pretzels, and conversations, head on over after work on Thursday.

Friday, July 22

9:00 am - 5:45 pm

CapitalCamp: This two day conference will focus primarily on Drupal, training people new to the platform and diving in deeper in more advanced sessions. We will be there leading a session on making custom maps using TileMill and getting them Drupal sites (which can be as simple as a YouTube-like embed).
