It’s a busy week for the geeks in Washington, DC with events on topics ranging from open data for international development to accessibility to php and online video. Monday, October 5 - UPDATED

Mashable Meetup: Today Mashable is holding its first meetup in DC to bring together folks to talk about how social media, technology, and supporting innovative ideas can change the world. Check it out if that sounds like you and if you’re a Mashable reader.

Tuesday, October 5

6:00 pm

DCPHP Beverage Subgroup: If you’re a php programmer or are interested in becoming one, check out this meetup where local php developers meet to talk code over beers.

7:30 - 9:30 pm

HacDC: Sampling Ocean Debris, One Particle at a Time: This HacDC event will feature a presentation on a device that analyzes plastic particulates in the North Pacific Gyre, a unique ocean region between California and Hawaii that causes plastics to break down and be eaten by marine life due to its currents, high pressure, and sunlight. The device is made with commercially available electronics, a few custom made mechanical parts, and a suite of open source software that manages its data processing and storage.

Media Future Now Brown Bag Lunch: C-SPAN Library and Video: This brown bag lunch session will feature two discussions around online video. Howard Mortman from CSPAN will show how the C-SPAN video library works, and Chris Bown from Quinn Gillespie and Associates will talk about how to best use and benefit from online video.

World Bank’s Open Forum: Open Development Solutions: The World Bank is hosting this two day online event of live video coverage from the World Bank/IMF annual meeting and its discussions about open data and its use in international development. There will also be an interactive chat feature that allows you to submit questions around this topic.

CiviCRM Meetup: Do you use CiviCRM, or are you interested in switching to an open source CRM tool? Then come out to this meetup to learn about implementations of CiviCRM and meet users and developers working with the tool.

Saturday, October 9

9:30 am - 5:30 pm

Accessibility Camp DC: This bar camp style conference will bring together folks who want to improve online accessibility and talk about topics like 508 compliance, ways to make websites and pdfs more accessibly, captioning, and more. If you’re interested in accessibility or want to learn more, come out for this day long camp.

6:30 - 10:00 pm

Nerd Nite: Caffeine, Cabernet, and Cocaine: This month’s Nerd Nite focuses on mind altering substances with presentations on coffee and caffeine’s affect on your body, the United State’s up and down relationship with alcohol, and a modern history of the high. Come out to learn some interesting facts about these drugs and listen to some live music from local bank The Grand Candy.
