It’s not surprising that there are quite a few open government related events happening this week with the Gov 2.0 Expo taking place in town, and as usual there are some other interesting technology meetups and discussions on issues like new media and broadband access. Below are events we thought would be fun, and you can find a full list of what’s happening this week over at DC Tech Events. Have a great week!

Monday, May 24

1:00 - 4:00 pm

Open Government Community Summit: This monthly self-organizing workshop will look at how to build inter-agencies communities of practice within the government, in line with opening up the government and its information sharing.

Tuesday, May 25

6:30 pm

CopyNight: Carl Malamud of Public Resource has been leading an effort to put the text of laws online, and he’ll be at this meetup to talk about how the project is going and other work he’s doing to improve access to information.

Wednesday, May 26

5:00 - 8:00 pm

Disruptathon - Gov 2.0 To Mobile: One of many Gov 2.0 events happening around the Gov 2.0 Expo, this event will look at what role mobile phones should have in gov 2.0 strategy and include some companies showing off their tools.

6:30 pm

DC Media Makers: Digital Capital Week is coming up in June, and the DC Media Makers group is getting ready for it by working on some mashups and brainstorming other ideas on how they can participate in the week long technology festival.

Thursday, May 27

5:30 - 7:00 pm

Why the Broadband Plan Matters - Really, Why?: The Media Future Now group is organizing this discussion looking at our national broadband plan and why it’s a big deal. The discussion will be joined by Shana Glickfield from NextGenWeb, digital media analyst Shireen Mitchell (aka “Digital Sista”), Elise Kohn from the FCC’s National Broadband Team, and Alan Rosenblatt from the Center for American Progress.
