The next Washington, DC Drupal meetup - happening this Monday, May 10 - will focus on open data, with the recent launch of Data.WorldBank.org on Drupal. Data.WorldBank.org is part of a huge open data initiative that the World Bank is undertaking to open up its massive database of worldwide human development indicators and make this data accessible online.

At the meetup, we’ll hear from the team behind the project at the World Bank and from some of the developers who worked on it:
-
Jeff McCoy from the World Bank will talk about why the World Bank opened up this data, their goals with Data.WorldBank.org, and why they decided to build the site on Drupal. Livia Barton, also from the World Bank, will share statistics from the site’s first month.
-
Frank Febbraro from Phase 2 Technology will talk about the World Bank’s API that lets people access and interact with the data and why it’s built as it is.
-
Alex will walk through Data.WorldBank.org, explain how it works, and talk about some of the modules that power it.
It should be really interesting to hear about the different work that went into this project and to discuss some of the reasons why Drupal is a great solution for data heavy sites like Data.WorldBank.org. There will also be one more talk about open data, though not related to Data.WorldBank.org:
- Peter Corbett from iStrategy Labs will talk about the European Union’s efforts to open up data, along with talking about the upcoming Digital Capital Week.
More details on the meetup are available in the Washington, DC Drupal group. Hope to see you on Monday!
