There are many interesting technology events happening in Washington, DC this week, focusing on everything from international mapping efforts by local experts - including ones of Haiti to be used in earthquake relief efforts - to photography tips from a pro to a start up challenge for university students. Below are the ones that piqued our interest, and you can find a full list of the weeks happenings at DC Tech Events. Have a great week!

Monday, January 25

Noon - 1:30 pm

The Administration's Strategy in Afghanistan and Pakistan: At this event, National Security Advisor James L. Jones will discuss the Obama Administration's current strategy on Afghanistan and its larger national security goals moving forward. A panel discussion will follow, analyzing Afghanistan's current government and approaches the international community can take in the region.

Tuesday, January 26

6:00 pm

Health 2.0 STAT: Seven Health 2.0 leaders will give rapid-fire presentations on how hospitals, research institutions, government agencies like HHS, and patients are using technology to improve healthcare. The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session with the presenters.

6:30 - 8:30 pm

DCPHP Beverage Subgroup Meetup: Are you a php coder? Come out for this meetup to talk with other local php developers over a few beers.

Wednesday, January 27

6:30 pm

DC Media Makers Meetup: In the first meetup of 2010, Jen Consalvo - co-founder of Shiny Heart Ventures and photographer - will talk to the group to talk about her favorite photography techniques. Bring your camera and be ready to experiment.

7:00 - 9:00 pm

GeoDC Meetup: Join local mappers and GIS experts for networking and lightning talks on how the DC mapping community is improving maps of Haiti to aid in earthquake relief efforts, an upcoming project to map parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and a recently completed GIS project in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Friday - Sunday, January 29 - 31

5:30 - 11:30 pm

StartUp Scramble DC University Challenge: This weekend local students will get together to compete against each other to launch the most promising socially-conscious businesses. The entire process will happen over the weekend, with teams ultimately pitching their business to a panel of judges. The winning team will get up to $1,000 in seed funding, mentorship, and the possibility of a year of incubation services from Ashoka.

Saturday, January 30

9:00 am - 7:00 pm

CrisisCamp Haiti - WashingtonDC: CrisisCamp Haiti is happening again this weekend, bringing together technology volunteers to work on crisis mapping and data and RSS feed aggregation to help with the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. Everyone is welcome to come help out.
