
Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! If you happen to have off today, there are service events happening throughout the city that you can participate in - the DCist lists a few of them here. There are also quite a few Haiti fundraising events taking place this week. We Love DC has a good list of the big ones, and be sure to check out the comments for others.

MLK Day Peace Walk: If you’re not working today or off at one of the many service events happening throughout the city, you can celebrate Martin Luther King day by walking for peace. The walk starts at the 2500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, heads south on South Capitol Street, and ends at the Covenant Baptist Church in the 3800 block of South Capitol Street.
Tuesday, January 19

Accessibility DC: This group will kickoff its first meetup with a discussion and demo of the JAWS screen reader), software that makes computers accessible for the visually impaired through text-to-speech transcription or a braille display.

NetSquared: Launching an Activist Blogger Network: One year ago Care2 launched its Cause Channels, and already traffic has grown to over a million pageviews monthly. At this month’s NetSquared meetup, Care2 will talk about how they launched and maintain the large community.

Washington DC CiviCRM: The CiviCRM group will meet for a presentation on After the Deadline, an open source proofreading technology that checks for spelling and grammar mistakes, and a discussion on the meetup group’s CiviCRM website.

UXCamp DC: This unconference - meant to bring together web designers, user experience experts, and information architects - will focus on improving user experience online and offline. If this is an area you’re interested, this will be a great way to meet others working in the area and learn from them.
