Week in DC Tech

There’s an interesting variety of technology events happening in Washington, DC this week with focuses ranging from using Twitter for advocacy to drinking beers with php developers to discussing designing way outside of the box. Additionally tomorrow is international Car Free Day and there are events happening throughout the city to celebrate it and help you how to rely on cars less. Tuesday, September 22

All day

Car Free Day: Help reduce traffic and improve air quality by leaving your car at home on Tuesday in celebration of Car Free Day. There are also free bike repair trainings, yoga classes, and other events happening throughout the day to help you lead a car free lifestyle.

6:00 - 8:00 pm

DC PHP Beverage Subgroup: Come out to talk code with other php developers over a few beers. This is a great opportunity to get to know local php developers in a casual setting while sharing stories about your code.

7:00 pm

Refresh DC September Meetup: Oooh, That’s Clever! (Unnatural Experiments in Web Design): Itching to try something different in web design, or just want to see some examples of really out there site designs? Paul Annet, Clearleft’s visual design lead, will be at this month’s Refresh DC meetup presenting on the art of smoke and mirrors and how to use them to inspire truly unique web designs.

Noon - 2:00 pm

Internet Advocacy Roundtable: The Progressive Revolution Will be Tweeted: Twitter has become a hugely valuable communication tool for advocacy work. This brown bag lunch will train you on how to use Twitter for advocacy and engagement, suggest some tools to make managing Twitter outreach easier, and discuss two examples of progressive organizations that are successfully using Twitter to advocate for their cause.

Wikipedia Meetup: Wikipedia is a revolutionary force in the reference world, and it relies on a passionate community to keep it that way. If you’re a Wikipedia fan, contributor, or wannabe contributor, come out for this meetup to meet others and get involved.
