Preparing for Peru's Software Freedom Day: Talks on Drupal, Features, and Open Atrium

Software Freedom Day in Lima, Peru: Saturday, September 19th

This Saturday, September 19th, the Peruvian Drupal community is holding its first DrupalCamp as part of Software Freedom Day’s activities in Lima, Peru at the Universidad de San Martin de Porres. I’m excited to be presenting a session on Features in Drupal and on Open Atrium, which is a great example of what can be done with the Spaces, Context, and Features trio. I’m also planning to hold a BoF on how to build Features in Drupal.

There are some great presentations planned for the Camp, and two that I’m particularly looking forward to:

In addition to planned sessions, there will be plenty of BoFs – casual presentations or discussions set up on the fly, unconference style. More information on day’s activities can be found here.

Alongside the Drupal sessions, there will be a lot of other open source conversations happening at Software Freedom Day, a global event to celebrate and promote open source software. Some of the other participating organizations include Ubuntu Peru, PHP Lux + PHP Peru, Dokeos Peru, and CIXOS-FIA. One of the presentations planned by CIXOS-FIA – the Community for Research on the OLPC Project – is on the development and implementation of the OLPC project in Peru. It will be great to hear about their plans, and it won’t be the first time Drupal and OLPC have been in the same room.

It looks like this event will bring together several important projects and, more importantly, the people behind those projects and communities. Software Freedom Day is a great opportunity to not only meet and network with the Drupal Peru members, but also meet members of the community across projects, programming languages, and platforms.
