Tomorrow I’ll be attending WhereCampAfrica in Kampala, Uganda. I’m looking forward to discussing the release of MapBox, a suite of open source tools that help developers generate custom map tiles using Amazon’s S3 infrastructure, talking about OpenStreetMap and mapping in Drupal, and learning from the other participants.
This is the second WhereCampAfrica, with the first taking place in Nairobi in April, and it’s being held in conjunction with Africa GIS which has been going on all week. WhereCampAfrica is organized as an unconference, meaning that sessions are self-organized and attendees play the key role in shaping the event. Anyone can propose a session and prepared presentations will be short or non-existent, with the emphasis instead on freeform discussions, brainstorming, and collaboration.
WhereCampAfrica will be held at the Speke Hotel and Resort outside of Kampala and kicks off at 9:00 am tomorrow, October 30. The event is free, but participants who aren’t attending AfricaGIS should register so organizers have badges ready for you. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
