October's GeoDC Meetup Is Tonight

Talks on Extending Geocoders and Designing Terrain Visualizations

This month’s GeoDC meetup will be tonight, Wednesday, October 28th, at 7:00 pm at Stetson’s Bar and Grille. There are two short presentations planned for tonight.

Kate Chapman from GeoCommons will show how to get started using their open source geocoder in the United States, explain how it works, and cover how it can be extended to be used with other data sets.

AJ Ashton from Development Seed will explain how he designed three custom maps to serve as the base for Afghanistan election visualizations. The maps use Shuttle Radar Topography data to create accurate terrain visualizations and were made entirely using open data and open source tools.
