Week in DC Tech: October 26th Edition

Geo, php, digital media, and costumes this week in Washington, DC

Week in DC Tech

Halloween is less than a week away, and the technology community is getting ready to celebrate it. Early in the week there are some interesting meetups to check out, including ones on geodata and mapping, digital media, and php, and as the week goes on the focus turns much more to tech-oriented costumes and parties. Below are some events that caught our eyes, and a full list of what’s happening in technology this week is over at DC Tech Events. Have a great week!

Tuesday, October 27

6:00 - 8:00 pm

DCPHP Beverage Subgroup: This meetup brings together two great things - php and beer. If you’re down with both, you won’t want to miss this one.

Wednesday, October 28

6:30 pm

DC Media Makers Meetup: This month’s media makers meetup will feature a talk by Aram Zucker-Scharff, a digital media maker over at George Mason University. He’ll be talking about everything from community journalism to online video to video editing software, as well as demonstrating some of his work, so if you want to see some fun examples of digital media, come out for this event.

7:00 - 9:00 pm

DC Geo Meetup: The DC Geo meetups bring together local mappers working a range of cool projects and who focus heavily on the open source site of mapping. Come out to share ideas and get involved in some of the ongoing local open source mapping projects.

Thursday, October 29

7:00 - 10:00 pm

DC Design Babes Costume Party: Been meaning to make your Halloween costume but just gotten to it yet? Come out and enter the costume making party. It’s a great chance to get ready for the weekend, meet other people in the design field, and possibly even win something.

Saturday, October 31

9:00 pm - ?

techARTS: I’m guessing that there will be lots of zombie robot costumes at this Halloween party. TechArts is bringing together people into technology and art for a big Halloween bash, with interesting people to meet, drink specials, and…dry ice.
