The second DrupalCamp Peru is taking place this Saturday in Lima. While the
first DrupalCamp in Lima was held during a larger Software Freedom Day event, this one will focus solely on Drupal. This is just another indicator of
Drupal's growth in Peru. The presentations planned range from "What is Drupal" and "DrupalChix" to be presented by
Danny Montalvo and
Rosa María Orellana respectively, to "Using JQuery extensions for Visual Effects in Our Drupal Themes" to be presented by
Nicolas Borda.
There will also be a roundtable led by
Cesar Soplin, the head of web development at the
Grupo El Comercio, a company that owns several newspaper and other media properties that use Drupal extensively. The discussion will cover usability, performance and scalability issues, and the current state of Drupal in Peru, and will include other leaders in Peru's open source community, including the main organizer of this DrupalCamp
Fernando García and the lead developer of the open source project
Dokeos Yannick Warnier.
Given the topics to be covered in the roundtable and with other major companies also using Drupal like Peru's biggest beer company
Cerveza Cristal and many local universities, I decided to present on some of our ideas on how to manage and scale large websites, highlighting
Features,
Feature Servers,
Drush Make, and
Aegir. Specifically, I'll present on why you should use features, the problems that features servers solve, and how an organization - whether a large university or a web development company - can take advantage of all of these tools. While the presentation will be technical, I'll use a higher-level story line throughout it that should help make it easier to follow for a general audience.
There will also be BOFs happening throughout the day. I'll have some of our latest tools -
Open Atrium,
Managing News,
MapBox, and a local Aegir installation - installed on my local web server, so if you'd like to check them out please just come find me. I'm looking forward to catching up with everyone and meeting new folks on Saturday!
