GOSCON: Talks on Open Atrium and MapBox

Conference tomorrow will feature open source solutions for government

Eric and Tom are both presenting tomorrow (Thursday the 5th) at GOSCON, the Government Open Source Conference, which will be happening downtown in Washington, DC. They should bring an interesting international development angle to the conversation.

Eric will be showing off Open Atrium, specifically looking at the flexibility and strength of the community that comes with working with an open source system. He will walk through Open Atrium’s out of the box functionality, talk some about its extensibility, and show examples of how other developers are building features for it to meet their unique needs.

Tom will be talking about how open source tools like MapBox enable organizations to add value to data with better visualizations and interaction. He’ll be going into detail about how MapBox builds on the already rich environment of open source tools for GIS to make something that handles common uses of geodata with little topical expertise required.

Drupal is also going to have a table at the event, thanks to the Drupal Association, and Tim Bertrand from Acquia will be speaking at the conference as well. I will be at the table for part of the day with some other DC Drupalists, sharing handouts and having conversations to help get more government folks to put the Druplicon sticker on their laptops. :) Stop by if you are coming. And for people that want to get a start on the conference tonight, there is an OpenGov Meetup tonight at 6 pm down at 13th and Penn.
