'What Open Data Looks Like to the Rest of Us' Tomorrow at Open Government Conference

Tomorrow Eric will present on what open data looks like to the general public at the Open Government on the Internet conference down in Austin at the LBJ Presidential Library and Museum.

Breaking away from the more theoretical conversations on transparency and open data, Eric will talk about how a local bar hopping website (www.StumbleSafely.com) has helped DC police better monitor crime. He’ll also talk about how international development agencies are helping each other in their work to end poverty by sharing maps on the open source tool Open Street Maps.

The conference will look at how new technologies and transparency in government can improve accountability, and with the event’s diverse speaker list there are sure to be some interesting discussions. White House CIO (and former DC CTO) Vivek Kundra will give the keynote, and other sessions will be led by politicians including former senator Bill Bradley and Texas Comptroller Susan Combs, as well as people more on the technical side like us and the folks at the Sunlight Foundation.

The conference is sold out, but it will be streamed live, so tune in if you’d like to catch some of the talks.
