It’s here! According to the, ahem, experts, this week Washington, DC will have its first long stint of springtime weather. The start of spring in this city means two things – cherry blossoms and tourists – and this week we’ll be seeing lots of both with peak blooming period starting Wednesday and running through Saturday.
But of course us geeks will still be doing our thing. If you can squeeze in some non-cherry blossom related fun or want to avoid the throngs of people, come out to a few tech events this week. Here’s a look at where we’re hoping to be. DC Tech Events has a full listing of the week’s happenings.
Monday, March 30
Mobile Monday: Texting for Dollars: Wouldn’t it be sweet if people could donate to your cause just by sending a text message? At this month’s Mobile Monday meetup, the Mobile Giving Foundation will discuss how nonprofits can get into mobile fundraising, and when and why they should. (We got the date wrong on this last week. It is happening tonight, 3/30.)
Wednesday, April 1
6:00 – 7:15 pm
Blogging and Cupcakes: Using Social Media in a Crisis: Blogs can be a great medium to get messages out in near real time. Come hear how Health and Human Services blogged the contaminated peanut butter crisis and how it worked for them.
6:30 pm
NOVA Drupal Meetup: Want to learn more about a leading open source content management system? Come out to to this event and meet experienced Drupal developers and users, along with newbies. People will talk shop and share what they learned from last month’s DrupalCon.
Saturday, April 4
Cherry Blossom Parade: Not tech related, but this is a must do DC event. This annual parade features tons of floats and performers and draws a crowd. Come out for the parade and take some time to enjoy the cherry blossoms.
Also, next Monday on April 6 we’ll have the monthly DC Drupal meetup! If you’re a local Drupaler or Drupal curious, plan on coming out.
Have a great week!
