Jun 19, 2009 by Will White
How fast can you install modules? Drush, the Drupal command line utility, takes what normally is a tedious task and turns it into a delightful experience.
Final Times
Manual Method: 2:38:75
Drush Method: 1:17:57
Module installation is just one of the things Drush can help you with. Learn what else it can do for you on the project page: http://drupal.org/project/drush.
Nice :)
I’ve got my own Drupal module install commands, long before Drush existed:
function drupal_module { if [ $# -eq "2" ] then cvs checkout -d $1 r DRUPAL$2 contributions/modules/$1 else cvs checkout -d $1 contributions/modules/$1 fi}Of course, Drush is superior. I’m going to make the switch soon :)
And as already said by Geoff, this is a very effective way to communicate the difference. A simple video can replace a thousand words. Thanks :)
what were you installing?
why did it look like the drush guy was doing 9 times more typing that was necessary? that should have taken him about 30seconds.
Re: what were you installing?
Hey drewish, We were installing views, context, token, cck, and Drush Module Manager. What commands do you use to download and enable modules?
Twice as fast if you dont
Twice as fast if you dont consider uploading those modules to the server. then who knows how much faster. ;-)
Drush saves my life everyday
Kick ass
I laughed out loud watching this today. Grabbed my wife Amy and she enjoyed it as well. Love the subtle facial expressions.
This video basically says 2
This video basically says 2 things: Drush is a very cool tool Build in a module browser into the Drupal UI that allows to directly download modules to the host running your installation, similar to Wordpress theme installation
You guys kill me
And I want some Pabst! I can see Eric’s taste in beer permeates the whole company. http://robshouse.net/photos/drupal-fosters-good-taste-beer
You like that beer fridge?

very nice. great way to get a point across – i’d love to see more vids on people incorporating drush into their workflow for typical scenarios. keep up your awesome work guys!
Way Cool!
Such an effective way to communicate how Drush simplifies your Drupal life. As good as this look here, multiply this by every Drupal installation you have ever done and you start to love Drush really quick.
Cool vid.
Ahh, you command line folks make it look so easy…but do you really have lounge music playing while you develop? (That just might help my workflow.)
