Week in DC Tech: June 8th Edition

Drupal, Libraries, and Disaster Relief this Week in Washington, DC

There are some great tech events lined up this week in Washington, DC that we’re excited about here at Development Seed. Kicking the week off is a Drupal meetup starting at 7:00 pm tonight. Later in the week is a discussion on how technology can make libraries stronger community hubs that can act as catalysts for local change. Then CrisisCamp coems to town this weekend, bringing together techies and experts to discuss how technology can be deployed to improve how the world detects, monitors, and responds to disasters.

More details on all of these events are below. Have a great week!

Monday, June 8

7:00 – 9:00 pm

DC Drupal Meetup: Come out tonight to talk Drupal with local developers and people who use the CMS to manage their websites. As always, there will be beer, networking, and a chance for everyone to share what they’re working on with the group.

Community Development, Technology, and Libraries: Why the Modern Library is a Catalyst for Change: Libraries aren’t typically known to be on the cutting edge of technology, but some people are working to change that and turn libraries into facilities where people can not only access huge amounts of information but also engage with people in their community around that information. This discussion will look at how libraries, equipped with the right tools, can become launching pads for community development projects. This event is part of IREX’s Tech Series (but is not listed on their website).
