Open Atrium in Public Beta, Code on Github

Beta Release of Open Source Intranet in a Box

Open Atrium’s code is now in open beta! You can download the code from www.openatrium.com, learn more about its features, read why we open sourced it, and the check out the roadmap for the next release. What we’re most excited about now is getting feedback from you all and growing the developer base over on github.

Open Atrium is a light package that’s extensible, both in terms of features and look. We’ve posted documentation on how to build new features for it and how to change the skin, and and we’re currently documenting other commonly asked questions. As of now, out of the box Open Atrium is available in English, Spanish, and Arabic, with good progress made on German and Hungarian, and it’s being translated into a dozen other languages. We’ll blog more about the translation service and how you can get involved soon.

To follow up on Jeff’s post from last night I want to thank all of the alpha testers who have helped make this release possible. We look forward to working together on github to keep making Open Atrium better.

LDAP integration

Hi there,

I must say I’m quite impressed so far with our trial of Atrium. One aspect of note is that our version has LDAP integration module which is working fine, but the one problem is that it doesn’t create a Atrium user account.

Also from a User Experience point of view the main navigation elements seem out of order, a simple change that we’ve implemented, but feedback from our test users has been positive.

LDAP?

Hello Can You let me know how did You enable LDAP integration? I do not see LDAP module in module list. Do I need to install it from baseline drupal repository?

LDAP

I have heard from several people that they are using LDAP on Open Atrium. If you have issue best to post on http://github.com/developmentseed/Atrium/issues

Awesome!

Had it installed and running in no time! Just what I had been looking for to support my customers. Very simply but will do the job well after maybe a few created features. This will save me lots of development time! I’ll be sure to submit any issues as I support this project 100%. Great work!

Hi, I downloaded &

Hi,

I downloaded & installed it after a user mentioned it on drupal.be (DEMEESTERROEL, http://drupal.be/gebruiker/demeesterroel-0).

The package is impressive. I’ve some Drupalsites running and some questions for you guys ;-)

Can i use the same directory (o yes, installing Drupal AND OpenAtrium in /drupal/?) Because even the install text mentions only Drupal and not OpenAtrium. Or should i use a different directory and maintain two Drupal installations (one real Drupal, one OpenAtrium? – Technically it should be possible, but is it convenient ? – When Drupal comes out with a new version (6.14, 6.15 …), do i have to wait until a new version of OpenAtrium or can i use the Drupal files? When i can use the Drupalversion, it should be possible to use one folder (yes, with subfolders of course) but run Drupal and OpenAtrium at the same time.

Len, Glad you are using

Len, Glad you are using Atrium :). If you could post your issue over here: http://github.com/developmentseed/Atrium/issues there will be a crew of folks that can get back to you.

Thanks!

OMG

This is just the hotness! We just got our’s authenticating from LDAP, it’s so pro!

Dev Seeders: I’ve been in

Dev Seeders:

I’ve been in this game for 5 or 6 years now. In this time, two dates stand out on my calendar: the day I discovered Drupal was the first big one, and July 14, 2009 was the second.

After only one day, Open Atrium is being used by our hospital’s Pandemic Planning team. In less than 24 hours, its changed the way we work.

THANK YOU

Terry

Impressive

This is an awesome showcase for Drupal and many contributed modules!

I’m eager to test this out, and who knows, replace our intranet with Atrium, provided I find out how to import all or data into Atrium.

Budding potential

This looks and functions really well! I’ve really wanted to replace my the Basecamp system we use at work. It’s painfully slow, and hasn’t changed significantly in I think 4-5 years.

Seems like this is a great foundation to create a product which competes with Basecamp. With a couple of modules one could turn this into a very impressive rival to that service. The product looks great, and has a lot of good ideas worked in throughout. Good work!

Please do accept a bit of feedback: I’m not sure I’d use a “To-do” icon as your case tracker icon. That’s a tough one, because I’m not sure what kind of icon you could use, but when I saw the “To-do” icon I immediately clicked on it and found it wasn’t at all what I was expecting. Furthermore, I imagine that a true “To-do” module will be built in the future, and that could confuse the issue even more.

Second, I would almost consider moving the “Projects” outside of the case tracker, giving them their own tab up top. Managing projects doesn’t seem limited to Case Management, as an extender may want to link their modules (such as Milestones, Time Tracking, or To-Dos) to the Projects. Not that it wouldn’t be possible to do so without moving the projects outside of case management, but it would seem less intuitive.

Thanks for your great work! Brian

One more idea: Perhaps you

One more idea:

Perhaps you could move the files outside of the “Dashboard” widget as well? It seems like it’d be cool to have different Views for files, such as “View by Project” or “View by Uploader.” I’m sure you’re trying to save room up there for additional modules / have good reasons for your decisions. Just wanted to give you my personal feedback.

mysql 5 only?

My shared host doesn’t offer mysql 5…am I just out of luck, or can it run with 4.x?

Mark

We’ve designed and tested the

We’ve designed and tested the system on mysql 5 so I wouldn’t recommend trying it on on mysql 4.

Also, there are many shared hosts that do offer mysql 5, and you may want to see if yours is willing to upgrade you.

Jeff

We just installed Atrium and

We just installed Atrium and are busy putting everything through its paces. It’s just gorgeous. A new drupal-based intranet was on my to-do list. You may have just saved me a LOT of time. Thank you!

OMG

Wow this is IMPRESSIVE. We are just testing it out. Could you imagine a Drupal out of the box system to be so well structured, integrated and good looking?

This is almost challenging buddypress, even though a different target and use. Rock on! I am very much excited who will take up the ball and present his Drupal-for-a-specific-purpose-out-of-the-box-system next. You set the bar quite high.

Nice work! We might jump from our home spun Drupal 6 system to OA.
