Open Atrium and Developing Killer Features at Do It With Drupal

Sessions on the latest Open Atrium developments and how Features will change your development workflow

Eric and Jeff will present two separate sessions on Open Atrium and Features at next week's Do It With Drupal conference.

The Open Atrium session will show the latest that Atrium has to offer and give you the scoop on what's coming in the next few months. The session will target both social business software leaders looking for a custom platform for their organization and developers looking to extend Open Atrium, and both will walk out of the session understanding how Open Atrium balances as both a product and a platform. Eric and Jeff will kick off the session by showing how to set up Open Atrium in five minutes and discussing the strategy behind the features that Open Atrium ships with, and will then show off custom features like an RSS reader, talk about sharing features internally and externally with feature servers, and show how to set up Open Atrium with Aegir and how to do security updates to Open Atrium via Aegir. They'll also preview some of latest Open Atrium work from Jeff and Young, including integration of the new Admin 2 module and Rubik theme and new drag and drop flexibility for Context 3. The talk will end with a look at Open Atrium for enterprise users, and they'll share stories from the World Bank's recent Open Atrium deployments and Ian's rent work with the Pan American Health Organization. After this, when you think of social business software, you'll think of Open Atrium. Come caffeinated, this session will move fast.

As a natural follow up to this session, the next day Eric and Jeff will present on Features and fixing Drupal's development -> staging -> production workflow problem. This session will be targeted to CTOs making technology decisions and developers looking to start using features. The talk will explain why features was invented and the problems it solves, look into the guts of specific features in Open Atrium to show how they work, and walk through how to adjust and re-deploy a modified feature for Open Atrium. Jeff and Eric will also discuss the benefits of using features on a team build, talk about how this paradigm has helped Development Seed build faster and smarter, and explain how we get major wins using features. You'll walk out of this session understanding how features can drastically improve your Drupal experience and ready to start developing your own features.

Also, be sure to stop by the Development Seed table at the conference - Eric and Jeff will be there to offer technical help with Open Atrium and features.
