Week in DC Tech: August 24th Edition

Maps, Mashups, Code, and Networking This Week in Washington, DC

It’s hard to believe it’s already the end of August and that the summer is winding down. Luckily, the blazing hot weather of last week has abated and this week will be a little more comfortable – let’s hope it stays this way.

As usual, there are several great technology related events happening this week in Washington, DC, including one from the new GeoDC group that we’re especially looking forward to. Below is a roundup of the events that caught our eye, and you can find a full calendar of what’s happening this week over at DC Tech Events.

Tuesday, August 25

6:00 – 8:00 pm

DCPHP Beverage Subgroup: Prefer to geek out over a beer? This group meets monthly to talk about PHP code away from their computers and instead in a cozy bar.

Wednesday, August 26

Google Meetup: Have a burning question about Google? Here’s your chance to ask it. In the first ever Google meetup in Washington, DC, Google folks from the area and visiting from California will meet to talk about the latest from Google, field questions, and meet the local tech community.

6:30 – 8:00 pm

DC Media Makers: This meetup is a mashup free for all, with everyone encouraged to bring laptops and other media gear and come ready to show off some of the new media mashups you’re making or want to make.

7:00 – 9:00 pm

GeoDC Meetup: If you’re into mapping, you’ll want to come out to this event that brings together people who are doing some innovative things with maps. There will be a few short presentations, opportunities to take the floor to talk about your latest project, and lots of time for conversations over cold beer.

Tech Cocktail DC #6: Want to meet a ton of people working in all parts of the technology sector? This event brings together hundreds of techies all in one place to network, buy each other drinks, and see a few demonstrations from new tech startups.
